Adapted by Stephen Briggs.
Directed by Liz Bragg.
July 5th – 14th 2013.
“People don’t look for a woman in trousers, see? Men’s clothes, short hair and a bit of a swagger is all it takes to be a man. Oh, and a second pair of socks.”
It started as a sudden strange fancy: Polly Perks needed to join the army to find her lost brother. Except that in Borogravia, women aren’t allowed to join the army, or do much of anything interesting, really. A haircut, a change of clothes, and an extra pair of socks later, Polly is now Private Oliver Perks, marching off to war as part of the finest army on the Discworld, joined by a (reformed) vampire with a coffee habit, a lieutenant who cuts himself on his sword hand during practice, and the most legendary sergeant in Borogravia. And the enemy are looking for them…
From the company that brought TERRY PRATCHETT’S MORT to last year’s Fringe, comes another Pratchett favourite from the best-selling Discworld series.
TERRY PRATCHETT’S MONSTROUS REGIMENT is the second show of the 2012-13 Season: …now with magic! By permission of Methuen Drama.
“The success of this adaptation proves that the Collective clearly knows what they’re doing.”
“The cast was uniformly strong, but stand-out performances for me included:
Alex Dallas’ the bluff Sergeant Jackrum;
the well-meaning but inexperienced and clumsy Lieutenant Blouse played by David Galvin Heppenstall;
the multiple, very different roles successfully interpreted by Justen Bennett and Basel Daoud, and
Sarah White as protagonist Polly Perks.”
“For fans of smart, funny fantasy, Terry Pratchett’s Monstrous Regiment is a must-see.”
